The History of GAS

The anaesthetic doctors of Greenslopes Anaesthesia Services jointly have a proud history of serving the patients and doctors of Brisbane.

The privatisation of the Repatriation General Hospital Greenslopes to become Greenslopes Private hospital in 1995 was the spark that resulted in the formation in 2002 of a small associateship of anaesthetists servicing the needs of the hospital. And so began Greenslopes Anaesthesia Services.

The founding doctors were Dr Kuo Peng Lew, Dr Chandi Richards, Dr Susan Shadforth, Dr William Soong and Dr Andrew Thang. The associateship has grown over the years with doctors serving all the major private hospitals in Brisbane. There are now 30 anaesthetic doctors as part of the associateship.

Being an associateship, the doctors of Greenslopes Anaesthesia Services are able to develop their individual practices to meet the needs of their surgeons and their patients.  The associateship provides collegial support and continuing training opportunities for each of the doctors.  It also promotes the ability to participate in the training of the next generation of anaesthetists through Greenslopes Private Hospital’s links with the University of Queensland School of Medicine.
